The Game
There are three modes of gameplay in this game: Story Mode, Battle
Mode, and Versus Mode.
In Story Mode, you take on the role of either Amuro Ray or Char
Aznable and play through a series of battles against the computer
that follow the story line of Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit
Gundam Char's Counterattack. When you first begin the game, only
Amuro's Story will be accessable. However, once you complete Amuro's
Story, Char's Story will become unlocked.
In Battle Mode, you select any pilotable mobile suit and play against
a series of 9 random battles. At the end of the 9 battles, a
short cut-scene animation can be seen of the mobile suit you used
to complete Battle Mode.
Lastly, in Versus Mode, you select any pilotable mobile suit and
your friend selects another pilotable mobile suit and you battle
against each other to see who's superior.
Mobile Suit Controls
Each Mobile Suit has a total of 10 different attacks. In short
range mode, you have 4 attacks: one primary weapon (usually
a beam saber) and three different secondary weapons. Similarily,
in long range mode, you have 4 attacks: one primary weapon
(usually a beam rifle) and three different secondary weapons. In
addition to these eight attacks, you also have 1 special attack
for each short and long range modes.
Each of the eight normal attacks with the exception of the primary
short range weapon (beam saber) is limited by ammo. Ammo is
refilled during the battle only when all of its existing ammo is
used up.
Special attacks can be executed only when the Special's Gauge
(located under your Life Gauge) is filled up. This gauge fills
up as the battle continues against your opponent's mobile suit.
The best time to perform an attack against an enemy mobile suit
is when the lock-on cross-hair turns from green to red. When the
cross hair turns red it means that you are completely locked on
to the opponent mobile suit and the chance of hitting your enemy
has greatly increased. When the cross hair is green, the chance
of hitting your enemy is lower. The time it takes for the
cross-hair to lock-on (i.e. for the crosshair to turn red) varies
between the different mobile suits, the condition of the mobile
suit, and the distance between your mobile suit and the enemy
mobile suit.
Each attack can also be targetted towards a specific part of an
enemy mobile suit: Head, Arm/Shield, Waist, or Leg. The
destruction of each specific part of a mobile suit will give
different penalties to the pilot of the damage mobile suit.
Head = Increase the amount of time required until a lock-on
is achieved by 2
Arm/Shield = Lose the ability to raise your shield/arm and
for several mobile suits the ability to use
several secondary weapons
Waist = Lose the ability to use several secondary weapons
Leg = Decrease the speed of your mobile suit by 1/2
The attributes of each mobile suit also affect the damage you
deal with each attack.
Armor = How well protected the mobile suit is
Lock-on = How long it takes to lock-on to an enemy mobile suit
Power = How damaging each attack of your mobile suit is
Speed = How fast the mobile suit can move
Vernier = How long the vernier gauge can be used
Weight = How fast the mobile suit can move
